As an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), FOCUS collaborates closely with several of its agencies. FOCUS also works with a number of other like-minded agencies and donor partners.
Aga Khan Development Network
The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a network of private, non-denominational development agencies founded by the Aga Khan, which work primarily in the poorest parts of Asia and Africa. The network focuses on health, education, culture, rural development, institution building and the promotion of economic development. The AKDN aims to improve living conditions and opportunities for the poor, without regard to their faith, origin or gender. The AKDN works in 30 countries around the world, and it employs over 80,000 paid staff, mostly in developing countries. While the agencies are secular, they are guided by Islamic ethics, which bridge faith and society.
The Aga Khan Foundation Australia is the Foundation’s newest office and was established in 2023. The new office connects Australia and New Zealand with the Aga Khan Foundation’s global development work creating a bridge between the land Down Under and the communities we serve across Africa and Asia.Over the past fifteen years, the Aga Khan Foundation has worked with the Australian government to advance lives and livelihoods in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia and North Africa.
Since 1995, Focus Humanitarian Assistance USA (FOCUS USA) has been serving vulnerable communities throughout Central and South Asia in the aftermath of devastating natural disasters. We are also committed to fostering and building disaster-resilient communities in susceptible areas—including areas in the United States—by developing disaster risk mitigation programs to minimize impact and better prepare families and individuals before environmental emergencies such as winter storms, hurricanes or earthquakes strike.
FOCUS EUROPE is responding to the global challenges in many ways – from providing critical food and medical aid in countries such as Tajikistan and Pakistan, to supporting newly arrived migrants in Europe, where Covid-19 adds to the already complex challenges they face. As well as the emergency response, FOCUS is also supporting investment into sustainability by training communities on hygiene protocols and working alongside local organisations and government.
Our goal is that people live in safe, sustainable, and resilient habitats with the opportunity to thrive, whether in a remote mountain village, a town, or a densely populated urban centre. We work with communities to help them prepare for and respond to natural disasters and the effects of climate change.
